Top 5 Best Seattle Tourist Activities

November 16, 2022 by Nate Martin

You and your friends are on vacation in Washington state. Way to go! Those stacked up vacation days are finally paying off. First stop: Seattle.

Your artsy friend wants to explore the grunge nightlife; your pretentious barista mate is drooling over the coffee scene; and your outdoorsy pals are keen to hit the hiking trails. But there’s just one problem… you’re only here for a day.

So, what can you do to make the most of your time in Seattle? Is there an activity guaranteed to be fun for all involved parties?

Good news – Seattle is full to the brim with places to explore and fun things to do, so you’re in luck. Let’s take a look at some of the best options for an unforgettable day out in Seattle.

1. Pike Place Market

Of course, you can’t come to Seattle without seeing the world-famous Pike Place Market (crucially not Pike’s Place). This historic public market has been in operation since 1907, and it’s easy to see why it’s such a popular tourist destination.

With over 200 stalls selling everything from fresh produce to handmade arts and crafts, there’s something for everyone at the Pike Place Market. (And yes, there’s plenty of coffee for your barista friend.)

2. Visit the Space Needle

No trip to Seattle is complete without a visit to the Space Needle. This 605-foot-tall observation tower offers stunning views of the city, and it’s a great place to snap some photos for your Instagram feed.

If you’re feeling brave, you can even take a 43-second ride on the glass elevator to the top of the needle – but beware, it’s not for the faint-hearted!

3. Explore the Museum of Pop Culture

This one is for your artsy friend. The Museum of Pop Culture, or MoPOP, is an interactive museum dedicated to everything pop culture. From movies and music to video games and fashion, no one’s getting bored here.

There’s a section for science fiction, hip-hop, and grunge; you can even view a collection dedicated to Jimi Hendrix. Every exhibition is as cool as the last. This is a museum you really can’t miss!

4. Hot Tub Boats

If you’re interested in a day outside, try out the innovative Hot Tub Boats on Lake Union. You swim in the hot tub, and the hot tub swims in the lake. Cool, right?

The main appeal of this warm and bubbly day out is the breathtaking view you’ll get of Seattle from the lake. You can see the Needle, of course, as well as a few museums and parks. (Oh, and you can even check out the awesome houseboats as they pass you by).

5. Puzzle Break Escape Rooms

Not interested in the usual touristy schtick? Fair enough – we feel the same way. In fact, we’re so disinterested in tourist attractions that we came up with something even better: Puzzle Break!

Back in August 2013, we brought escape rooms to America right here in Seattle; a labyrinth of puzzles, mysteries, and challenges that needed to be solved in order to get out. Did you know we started our famous first room in Seattle with just $7,000, and it changed entertainment forever!

We’ve even got state-of-the-art virtual escape rooms for remote companies that need team-building exercises (and ones that aren’t snore-worthy, at that).

So, if you and your friends are looking for something a little different to do in Seattle, escape rooms might just be the perfect activity. Not only are they a ton of fun, but they’re also great for building teamwork skills and bonding with friends. And you get to experience the very first American escape room company.

The Seattle Puzzle Break Experience

If you’ve never experienced an escape room before, you might be wondering – how do these things actually work? Most people have heard of them, but not everyone knows the ins and outs.

In short, an escape room is a physical adventure game in which players are locked in a room and have to use elements of the room to solve a series of puzzles, find clues, and ultimately escape the room within a set time limit.

Think of it like a board game brought to life; like Cluedo in 3D, and you’re Professor Plum or Miss Scarlet trying to figure out who dunnit. The catch? If you don’t crack the clues in time, you’ve failed to escape the room!

Our State-of-the-Art Escape Rooms

A very barebones escape room might feature a padlock that needs to be unlocked with a key hidden somewhere in the room, or a code that needs to be cracked using a series of clues. But at Puzzle Break, we like to take things up a notch (or ten).

Our rooms are designed by professional set designers and puzzle creators. We’ve got movie-quality sets, Hollywood-esque props, and challenges that will really test your problem-solving skills.

Not only that, but our escape rooms are also designed to be highly immersive. You’ll feel like you’re in another world entirely, and the clock ticking down will add a sense of urgency to the whole experience.

To give you a hint, here are the synopses of our Seattle escape rooms:

The Eventide Departure

Can you and your companions solve the mystery of the last will and testament of the departed Professor Firestone and escape the ritual before it’s too late? You’ll need your thinking caps for this one, and some good old-fashioned grit.

This particular room has an evolutionary dueling escape game option, featuring two digitally-connected copies. Unravel the mystery alone with your team, or go head-to-head against rival adventurers!

Puppeteer’s Workshop

A legendary stage puppeteer has returned from an unexplained hiatus and is searching for a new apprentice. Does your team have what it takes to conquer his challenges? Or will you be relegated to the role of audience member forever?

Be on your guard; things are not always what they seem… and the puppeteer has more than a few tricks up his sleeve. You’ll need to use your creativity and outside-the-box thinking to escape this room.

Escape the Lost Temple

For the archeology nerds out there, this room is for you. You and your team have been transported back in time to a rumbling, crumbling temple. Does your team of adventurers have what it takes to solve the mysteries of this hidden temple and escape before it’s too late?

We’re proud to say that this room features technology seen in no other escape room in the world. It’s truly one of a kind.

Escape from Seattle – The World’s Fair Affair

And of course, where would we be without our love letter to Seattle? It’s where our escape room adventures all began. In this room, we explore the art, history, and culture of our fair city.

Featuring never-before-seen technology and a thrilling story, you’ll be challenged and delighted by the World’s Fair Affair. Does your team of researchers have what it takes to discover the secret of a mysterious tycoon?

So, there you have it – the rundown of our beloved Seattle escape rooms. There’s something for everyone, whether you’re a history buff, a puzzle fiend, a Seattle fan, or just looking for a good challenge. We can’t wait to see you solve your way out!

What’s So Good About Escape Rooms?

This is an excellent question, and one we’ll gladly answer. What’s so fantastic about a room that locks you in and forces you to solve puzzles to get out? Let’s see.

It Gets Your Brain Moving

Museums are cool and all, but they’re not always stimulating – especially if you couldn’t care less about history. Why not spend your day cracking codes and solving puzzles? It’s a great way to get those mental gears moving.

You Learn About One Another

Doing things with friends is a lot of fun. But after the fifth hangout of alcohol-induced giggles and Netflix, you might start to tire of surface-level conversations and want to get to know one another on a deeper level.

You’ll learn more about your friends (and yourself) in an hour in an escape room than you will in months of small talk. Who knew Kyle was such a math whiz? Sarah, you never told us you’re incredible at word riddles!

You’ll get to know one another’s communication styles and see everyone at their breaking points. It’s always good to know who you can rely on in a crisis…!

Everyone Wins

The cool thing about escape rooms is that you don’t need an IQ through the roof to beat the game. It’s all about working together as a team. As long as you’re willing to think outside the box, you’re sure to find success.

For those who aced math in school, you’ll love the numbers-based puzzles; for the book nerds, you can follow the story like a detective; for the natural problem-solvers, you’ll be in your element with logic puzzles. Excellent communicators will be vital to the team, too.

And if all else fails, at least you’re being totally immersed in a state-of-the-art, one-of-a-kind experience that you can’t find anywhere else.

It’s a Totally Unique Experience

You can find pubs on every corner, but how often do you get to say you’ve escaped from a life-sized video game?

Escape rooms are an experience like no other. You and your friends will be transported into another world where you have to use your wits to make it out alive – or at least before the timer runs out.

And with new themes and puzzles being added all the time, you can come back again and again and have a totally different experience. (Or, of course, you can try the same room in order to beat your previous score.)

Tourist attractions are fine, but they’re not necessarily unique. Okay, the Space Needle is pretty epic… and the markets are definitely a sight to see. But hey, our escape rooms only take an hour! You can do one before lunch and still have time to hit up Pike Place.

What Are You Waiting For?

Whether you’re looking for some quality bonding time with friends or want to take on a new challenge, escape rooms are the perfect activity. Our Seattle rooms are your ticket to the best day out; why not treat yourself to some Starbucks on 2nd Avenue, then come on down and see us?
